Mambo requires one MySQL database, and will live comfortably on any of our hosting plans. While it can be used in a subdirectory, it makes sense to use this in your base directory. While it is fairly easy to manage a Mambo website, you can expect to spend more time learning how to use Mambo than some of the less powerful CMSes. On the other hand, you aren't as likely to outgrow Mambo.
You may notice similarities between Mambo and Joomla. The development team split into two, with some continuing to develop Mambo, and others heading off in a slightly different direction with Joomla. Some third-party products work with both Mambo and Joomla; others work with only one or the other. It isn't easy for us to tell which one is "better". You may want to install one, play around with it, then install the other, and play around with it, to see which one suits your fancy. You may also choose one or the other on the basis of wanting a skin that's available for one but not the other.
You can install Mambo with only a few clicks, using Fantastico, or you can ask us to perform a manual install, at no extra charge.
